I did not realize how easy it is to pick a lock. But are they all a waste of money? When the thief carries an angle grinder with a cut off wheel even the best locks will only slow them down. So the only thing you can do it to lock the bike in a place that the cutting noise will wake people up.
Pick resistant locks are as good as you can get except for one or two that completely conceal the key way.
By
watching the Lawyers videos you can see what makes a very pick
resistant lock. “Sliders with False-gates”
[that work] are what you should be looking for.
This
ASSA Abloy protec2 PL330 padlock is BRASSS!!
Forget about it. Look for a hardened steel lock with a similar
interactive key . And a 3.8th inch shackle
[Remember that people use Hydraulic bolt cutters], like
the Powerlock PL700
with 12 discs [but only if they put false gates on all the discs].
The EVVA 3KS is good one, but is it available in an AFFORDABLE padlock? It depends on how much your bike costs, and wherre you lock it.
Bicycle locks:
Most U-Bar shackles are bolt-cutter proof, but not pick proof. Kryptonite locks are not the most pick resistant as their reputation would suggest. And they told me they will not sell me a new lock core for my old NewYork U-bar shackle. Because they just plain do not care if they loose business to newer lock manufacturers that make pick proof shackle locks.
Kryptonite
locks support:
We
don't sell lock cylinders separately. You must buy a new lock
that may or maynot have a pick resistant core. ~ sales department
the first mass produced Kriptonite "U" lock you can make one your self https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZPUJqvoUS4 |
If
you want to make your own hydraolic bolt cutter resistant ubar
shackle use two or three layers of work hardening stainless
steel flat bar, use 316 stainless the cheap finish will fool the thief trying
to cut it.
And
one of these pad locks: TrioVing Cylinder Padlock 5652R or Abloy 341 or Mul-T-lock G55
up graded:
Not Pick Resistant |
